영화와 함께 책을 보니 잠수종과 나비의 이야기를 더 잘 이해할 수 있었다.
뇌졸중 또는 Locked in syndrome라는 희귀병을 겪는 주인공이
오직 하나 움직이는 왼쪽 눈을 깜빡이며 한 글자 한 글자를 쓴 책이라니......

그리고 마지막 순간을 앞에 두고 그가 풀어내는 이야기가
참 시원하고 잔잔하고 평화롭다.

시원한 물 한잔을 들이키는 것,
누군가를 위해 사소한 것이지만 베갯잇을 사고 신발을 산다는 것,
어딘간로 향하는 내 발걸음이 가벼운 것..
그 모든 순간들이 소중하게 다가온다.

Jean-Dominique Bauby
Parisian journalist Jean-Dominique Bauby suffered a stroke in December 1995, and, when he awoke 20 days later, he found his body was almost completely paralyzed; he could control only his left eyelid. By blinking this eye, he slowly dictated one alphabetic character at a time and, in so doing, was able over a great deal of time to write his memoir, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Three days after it was published in March 1997, Bauby died of pneumonia. The 2007 film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a screen adaptation of Bauby's memoir.
